So what's it like dining out as a gf v?

I have only been in Orkney a week so I haven't tried many of the local establishments. However, last Sunday I did have a coffee and a slice of gluten free chocolate and orange cake at the local Fossil Centre in Burray, Orkney. Wow...it was very tasty indeed! Gluten free baking can be tricky to get right but this was light and spongy. I've experimented baking with various gluten free flours at home, and I have found that any supermarket gluten free plain or self-raising flour works very well (although my famous raspberry dark chocolate brownies did take a while to get right with gf flour - I promise I will share the recipe with you soon!).
In Edinburgh I became more familiar with the best places to go. One my favourite spots is Caffeine Drip at the West End. They do great breakfasts, lunches and cakes, and they have plenty of gluten free, veggie and vegan options (they also have meat and glutenous?! food if you're going with mates). Another favourite is Loudons Cafe and Bakery at Fountainbridge - there was so much to choose from that I came out quite a few pounds heavier than I went in!
To be honest, most restaurants and cafes now cater to a gluten free and/or veggie customer, and it is more and more common so you don't feel like you're being such a pain!
Anyways, before I wrote this I popped out for some fresh Orkney air. If you look below there is a photo of the Orkney Wine shop and another photo from just outside the shop - look at how close we are to the Italian Chapel!
Thanks for now,
x gf v x
